Woman of the Wolf
Woman of the Wolf by Renee Vivien. 1983 Gay Presses of New York, paperback edition. Vivien was well known for the first "explicitly lesbian translation of Sappho’s poetry." Upon her death at the age of thirty-two she had left behind volumes of poetry, two novels, and more. Vivien was a former lover of Natalie Barney and heartbreaker. This was the first English translation of Vivien's short stories, explicitly feminist alternatives to fairy tales, fables, and lores.
Condition: Good. Damp stains along the spine, fading to back cover, pages clean.
"I had heard, sometimes in terms of praise, sometimes in terms of contempt, of this lay monastery which was created out of the pain of one woman to shelter the pain of other women."
