Therese and Isabelle by Violette Leduc. Translated by Derek Coltman. 1967, Dell, first paperback printing, 95 pages. Leduc was a French author of often erotic fiction and autofiction, Simeone de Beauvoir's "protege", gay, and perpetual outsider. According to the Paris Review: "Leduc is often referred to as a writer’s writer, which carries connotations of highbrow experimentation. Yet her oeuvre, far from being tricksy or inaccessible, contains some of the rawest and most authentic conjurations of human subjectivity—self-loathing, vanity, lust, greed, joy, despair—that readers will ever encounter." Therese and Isabelle was published as a distinct novella after being censored from her book Ravages.

Condition: VG

"I hugged her, suffocating the tree; I hugged her, stifling the voices; I hugged her, annihilating the light."
