Virginia Woolf & Lytton Strachey Letters. Selected by Leonard Woolf and James Strachey. 1956 first U.S. edition, 166 pages. Woolf was one of the most important novelists, critics, publishers, stylists and sister of the twentieth century. A very good modernist! Strachey, an integral member of the Bloomsbury Group, was a critic and biographer who included psychological insight and wit when exploring his subjects. According to a review in the New York Times of Letters:  "Like two peacock-eggheads, Virginia Woolf and Lytton Strachey traded insults and endearments liberally. These letters show them praising one another's books in opening salvos for effect, then settling down to shrewd critical marksmanship."

Condition: Jacket in fair condition, bottom cover ripped away, now protected in mylar, book in good+ condition, boards have shelf wear, slightly cocked, owner name penciled in on end paper.

"I have been getting my books in order, you will be glad to hear: the gaps are awful."
