Collected Poems of Kay Boyle. 1991 Copper Canyon Press paperback edition, 172 pages. Boyle was an antiwar activist and prolific short-story writer, who wrote alongside the modernists and expats of her time. She won the Guggenheim and two O'Henry awards, and was widely published in the New Yorker, although was fired from her staff position and blacklisted for a time during the red scare. According to Publishers Weekly: "Showcasing a poetic career spanning 65 years, this fine volume demonstrates the strength of Boyle's ... commitment to a political aesthetic, one that combines a wealth of nuanced knowledge with a genuine liberal spirit."

Condition: VG

"I would like to be near you in the early walking

And hear not the birds' jubilation, or the heart's,

But the sadder, sadder sound

Of the poet talking."
