Hesse was a Nobel-winning German author, poet and essayist, best know for his novels Steppenwolf and Siddhartha. The eight stories in Strange News (written 1913-1918) have elements of magical realism and fairy tale, and were written during a time he was in conflict with many of his countrymen about the war.
