The Temptation of Jack Orkney & Other Stories by Doris Lessing. 1972 Knopf, first U.S. edition, 308 pages. Lessing was a Nobel Prize-winning author and novelist, most known the Golden Notebook,  a novel exploring making art, motherhood, failed partnerships. In her autobiography she controversially reveals how she left her children to pursue her independence when they were young. This collection includes twelve stories and one novella, which, according to the New York Times is: "[A] powerful, suggestive novella about the religious temptation of a rational man."
