The Awakener: A Memoir of Kerouac and the Fifties by Helen Weaver. 2009 City Lights, first edition, 260 pages. Weaver was the inspiration for the character Ruth Heaper in Kerouac's Desolation Angels. Her memoir covers her time spent with Kerouac, Ginsburg, and the Greenwich Village scene in the fifties.
