Diary of a Provincial Lady by E. M. Delafield. 1982 Academy Chicago edition (c/r 1931), 388 pages. Delafield wrote more than thirty novels in her lifetime, of which Diary was one of her most popular. It originated as a column for the feminist and socialist journal Time and Tide. It is a successfully comedic take on an upper-class woman living through the Great Depression.
