Light by Eva Figes. 1983 Pantheon, first U.S. edition, 91 pages. Figes was a refugee from Nazi Germany who went on to write the influential feminist work "Patriarchal Attitudes" as well as many experimental novels. Light was her second work of fiction and portrays a day in the life of Claude Manet.
