Haslund was a Norwegian writer, feminist activist, and parliament member who wrote novels, short stories, plays, and more. Nothing Happened was her debut novel and ignored at the time, but has since received acclaim. It follows the friendship of three women at college and the unrequited lesbian love of the narrator. According to Publishers Weekly: "Beautifully translated, lyrically told, the story by the famous author explores the feminist struggle between motherhood and personhood."
